Marquita's Home
Marquita and her children, one of our Buckingham County partner families, gave each other a great gift for Christmas...they worked alongside volunteers and began building their Habitat home, located in Dillwyn. As the home nears completion, it is a perfect time to reflect. Each of the pictures above tell their own story. Combined, they add another beautiful chapter to the story of Habitat, whose mission is to show the love of God in bringing a community together to build with one of their neighbors, making it possible for them to realize the dream of safe, decent, affordable housing. Marquita, her family, and her friends have invested hundreds of hours of "sweat equity", the term used to describe the fact that the partner family works on their own home and the homes of others. Support from the community has been tremendous, as over 60 volunteers have joined together to build this home. None of it would be possible without the dedication of the Buckingham Build leadership team, a group made of local citizens who truly care about their community. They engage in supporting the families, raising awareness, recruiting volunteers, and seeking donations. Recently they held their 2nd Annual Gospel Explosion, where attendees enjoyed a great day of fellowship and praise. This build has also been blessed by the tireless work of site supervisor Ralph Dunnavant.
Plans are being made for a Home Dedication ceremony to be held in mid-May. That will truly be a day not to be missed as Marquita and her family see their own hard work and the love of the community bear fruit as she takes possession of the keys to her brand new home!
