Meet LaShonda

LaShonda has been in the medical field ever since she graduated from high school. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, she has dedicated her life to caring for others. The largest portion of her care goes to her two active sons, who love sports, reading, and writing stories. A few years ago, due to financial struggles, she and her family were forced to move in with other family members. Though they make it work, the situation is far from ideal. They are crowded in their current home, not having enough room especially for two very active boys. Knowing their need, LaShonda's mother encouraged her to apply to become a partner family with Habitat for Humanity. LaShonda admits that at first she kept putting off going through the application process. That is until her mother, who is her biggest cheerleader and encourager for her and her boys, came to the Habitat office herself and took an application to LaShonda. When LaShonda found out her application had been accepted, she was overjoyed. As excited as she is, her enthusiasm might be topped by the children. Hardly a day goes by where they do not ask when they will get to see their new home. They are all most eager to have a place to call their own, with plenty of space for everyone. LaShonda is also looking forward to being closer to town and her job. As a CNA, she has worked in various nursing homes. She has always loved helping others and making lasting relationships with the residents at her work. Her dream is to one day go back to school to become a Registered Nurse. With a new home to provide strength and stability for herself and her family, she should experience less anxiety regarding her living situation, which in turn will help her focus on pursuing her dream. The Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity is excited to partner with her and her family and help them build a lifelong foundation on which to live their dreams.
