A Brush With Kindness Helps Homeowner in Red House

The Charlotte County Partnership of the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity recently held its first volunteer day for its A Brush With Kindness repair program. After forming the partnership in the fall of 2015, the leadership team worked to gather members, hold fundraisers, and establish policies and procedures for its venture into bringing Habitat to serve Charlotte County. The hard work has paid off as projects are now beginning to line up. A Brush With Kindness is designed for minor, exterior repairs to owner occupied homes. Typical requests for repairs include painting, installing gutters, repairing or replacing doors and windows, and working on porches, ramps, and rails. This first project is helping a resident in Red House with those type of repairs. For the first volunteer day, 26 local residents came out to show their love to one of their neighbors. The entire house was painted in about 3 hours! Since then, other volunteers have added rails to the front porch and installed new doors. All that is left is to add gutters and downspouts and the first Charlotte project will be finished.
