About Piedmont Area Habitat for Humanity
In 1990, a group of local citizens joined together with the goal of bringing Habitat for Humanity to the Farmville Area. Thirty plus years later, during which over 70 homes have been built or repaired, Piedmont Habitat for Humanity continues to serve those in need of safe, decent, affordable housing in the counties of Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland, Charlotte, Nelson, and Nottoway. In 2019, Nelson County Habitat for Humanity merged with our affiliate and the Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity became Piedmont Habitat for Humanity.
Piedmont Habitat partners with individuals, churches, businesses, civic organizations, government, schools, and other nonprofits to make a lasting impact in the community. Now more than ever, our nation and our local community are in the middle of an affordable housing crisis. Many individuals and families are forced to make tough decisions to either live in substandard housing or to spend too much of their income on housing costs.
In a nutshell, we build homes and we repair homes. But it is much deeper than that. We work with individuals and families who are willing to partner with us by working alongside volunteers to build or repair their home, attending homeowner education classes, and paying an affordable mortgage. We believe that through shelter we help individuals build strength, stability, and self-reliance. Better, affordable living conditions lead to improved health, stronger childhood development, and the ability and financial flexibility to make forward-looking choices. And as neighbors join together to lend a helping hand, a true sense of community is built.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of donors and volunteers who all embrace the simple belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live.

Habitat is a global nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization based on the simple principle to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ with a focus on shelter. We have an open-door policy. All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity does not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
